I wanted to love Gwyneth Paltrow, but something about her guest appearance wasn't quite right. She was delivering the lines but I didn't find them funny. She was gamely singing and dancing, but I found her performances too forced. I think she may just be too big for this show. I can't seem to watch her and not think...Gwyneth Paltrow, A-list actress.
So this recap will be brief because I honestly didn't find anything much to like about the episode.
Plus points:
- I love Matthew Morrison's voice, especially on Make 'Em Laugh. That whole number was a bit awkward though (I know it's a dream sequence and an homage to Singin' in the Rain, but still...)
- Rachel and Holly Holiday re-creating that final dance sequence from Chicago. And doing a fine job at it!
- They gave Mercedes a storyline! Lame plot, but at least she's not just there in the background.
Minus points: Everything else. Especially Terri's re-appearance. Please, writers, make her go away.
Episode nitpicks aside, I am more enthusiastic this week about Rachel's clothes! Glee Style has already identified nearly all of her outfits, so I didn't have to do much work. I'll just repost them here, in the order Rachel wore them on the show.
First up, this owl printed sweater from Kate Spade that Rachel already wore in Season 1:

Kate Spade Beacon Hill Owl Sweater (no longer available)
I may be mistaken, but I swear I saw this exact same sweater in Forever 21 Megamall branch:

Forever21 Umbrella Stripe Sweater, US$19.80
I bet there isn't an episode of Glee where Rachel doesn't wear at least one piece of clothing from Urban Outfitters...

Cooperative Printed Skirt from Urban Outfitters
Or Forever 21...

Forever21 Peacoat (no longer available online)
Urban Outfitters outfit #2:

Kimchi Blue Chiffon Ruffle Dress from Urban Outfitters, US$39.99
and #3 (I love this whole ensemble, it's my favorite for the week):

Marc by Marc Jacobs Karen Dot Cardigan, Cooperative Printed Skirt from Urban Outfitters
Next week: Someone's getting married! And they're singing not one, but two, Bruno Mars' songs! There's another big name guest star scheduled, let's hope this stunt casting will work better this time around.
