Guess what I saw on a trip to S&R Fort Bonifacio Branch last week?
Those are "Cath Kidston" bags, hanging inconspicuously on a rack near the small appliances section (next to the Hot Flops rack). I say they're "Cath Kidston" because I'm really not 100% sure they're authentic. I haven't seen a lot of authentic Cath Kidston bags so I'm not the best judge. I do remember reading this guide from Gladi though, so I tried to check the telltale signs.
First, the outside tag: I inspected only this black one, and frankly, I thought the tag seemed a little bit crinkly to my untrained eye (sorry, no close up pictures, a suspicious salesperson was hovering nearby. LOL):
Second, the inside tag: This one was neatly stitched also, no visible fraying. However, I did notice that the bags in S&R had a grey cloth lining inside, while Gladi's authentic bag was lined in the same print outside the bag (or there is no lining and the back of the print is the inside of the bag?). Hmmm....
Third, the price: The black bag pictured above was priced at about PhP1,450.00 (or roughly 20 British pounds). I checked the official Cath Kidston website and the style is called the "Book Bag", priced at 16 British pounds. So the pricing for that black bag is fair as it approximates the price on the website. However, the other bags in the first picture above are priced way below the prices on the official website. Double hmmm....
Conclusion: I am still inclined to say that they're not authentic. I would think that if someone brings Cath Kidston bags to sell here, they wouldn't be just hanging on a rack in a store such as S&R. Cath Kidston seems like a very "Rustan's" brand (In fact, Rustan's already carries Cath Kidston bath and body products). PhP1400.00 isn't exactly loose change, so I'd rather be safe than sorry and just order from the official website (or wait until Cath Kidston has an authorized distributor locally).

wow Cath Kidston is huge in London
ReplyDeleteThose bags are definitely FAKE!!! I brought my authentic Cath Kidston bag with me to S&R so I could compare them side by side and there were substantial differences. The quality is also very off, even without a side by side comparision.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your post - don't buy these FAKE bags. Your money is better spent elsewhere.
Does that also mean that the other products that they claim to be factory surplus (Burberry, RL) are actually fake?
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to have one Cath Kidston handbag they're so girly, but yeah we need to be smart this time, lots of fake out there, btw, new follower here :)
